“I wanted to just start again and do everything without compromise,” begins Meg Mac of the game-changing personal switch-up that led to ‘Matter of Time’: the Sydney-born singer’s incoming third album. Having recorded and primed a previous ‘third album’ for imminent release, Mac had what she now describes as “a bit of a meltdown” with personal and professional doubts coming to a head. She scrapped the body of work two weeks before launch and moved to a remote village in the NSW countryside. “Matter of Time” came into being across 2020 and 2021 and is a document of an artistic redemption of sorts, fleshed out by her most fully-realised sonic and visual palette yet. From the lead single ‘Is It Worth Being Sad’, the first track written from the remote village as lockdown hit, to re-imagined gems from the ‘unreleased’ album “Something In The Water” and “Don’t You Cry”, to selectively seeking songwriting collaborators PJ Harding (Noah Cyrus) for “Don’t You Cry” & “Head on the Pillow” and Jesse Shatkin (Sia) to bring additional magic to the likes of “Understand” – Meg took time to realise her newly found control and purpose. Enlisting production duo The Donuts (Kendrick Lamar) to capture Meg’s stunning and versatile vocals and push them to the fore in a range of ways; you can hear their synergy across the record, from the woozy, unlikely jam of ‘On Your Mind’, the breeziness of ‘Only Love’, and the intimacy of songs like ‘Something In The Water’ or ‘Lifesaver’. All these pieces fit together to answer a puzzle that Meg has been trying to solve for years - of how to truly be satisfied and to make a record that flourishes without compromise. Matter of Time is “how I’ve always wanted to do an album” she affirms, “…knowing when it’s not right, and having the confidence to say so and to take it in a different direction”. “Now for the first time, I really feel in control.”

CHARLIE COLLINS

Charlie Collins grew up with music-obsessed parents in the country music hub of Australia, Tamworth. Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline were main inspirations and would shape the bands Charlie played in with her siblings as well as Tigertown who toured with Panic At The Disco, Troye Sivan, Tove Lo. In 2018, she went solo, developing a singular, hard-to-pin-down sound that oscillates between different genres and distinct musical eras. Her debut album Snowpine (2019) was nominated for Best Country Album at the ARIA awards and won the Best Independent Country Album AIR Award in 2020. In 2022 Charlie released her sophomore album Undone, which was also nominated for Best Blues + Roots Album at the ARIA awards.

DEAR SUNDAY

The dynamic WA-based duo, Dear Sunday (aka Ben & Mason), have been taking it to new heights in 2023. From their collaboration with Aussie DJ Luude ‘Wanna Stay’, to hitting the road with emerging indie-band DICE for their Australian National Tour, and recently signing with Tone City Records and Untitled Artist MGMT, Dear Sunday aren’t looking to slow down anytime soon! Whether it’s their catchy choruses, hyping up the performance crowd, or getting fans around their ‘Spam’ page, Dear Sunday are definitely one to watch as they begin to establish themselves as the hottest next thing in Australian music.

In her prolific but (so far) short career Carla Geneve has twice been crowned West Australian Song of the Year, and swept seven WA Music Awards in three years. Her national recognition includes garnering two Australian Live Music Awards and the Vanda & Young Emerging Artist Prize. Her debut album ‘Learn To Like It’ garnered an Australian Music Prize nomination, while her 2023 release "Hertz" secured critical praise and was Australian National radio Double J feature album, as well as it being listed by the same station as number 35 of the best albums of 2023. Carla Geneve is a must-see all around powerhouse, with raw vulnerability and storytelling prowess.

TANYA RANSOM

Tanya Ransom’s signature sound of folk blues and alt country pulls heavy on the heartstrings. Her powerful vocals inhabit the sweet spot between tough and tender, effortlessly accompanied by her laid-back rhythm guitar. A product of her musical upbringing, having lived 20 years in the remote northwest town of Broome, Ransom’s ability to connect with audiences is undeniable as she paints a vivid narrative that will leave you attached to her raw emotion and storytelling through song.
